BORER STOOL

DESIGNER:

MANUFACTURER:
CHEN CHEN AND KAI WILLIAMS

MATERIALS:
ASH, ABALONE SHELL

DIMENSIONS:
L24"x W6"x H16"

DESCRIPTION:
The proportions of this stool are common in Asia but unusual in the west. It may look too narrow, easily supports two people comfortably.  The abalone inlaying technique references traditional, ornate, Asian furniture but is used in a Bauhaus manner to highlight the construction of the piece. The designers were inspired after hearing a radio program about the emerald ash borer, a beautiful beetle that is decimating the ash population. The story gave them a mental image of an iridescent green dot on a piece of ash.
