First chair is part of the Future Primitives series that Muller Van Severen presented in 2012 at Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk, Belgium. As the name suggests, it is their first chair, depicting the Muller Van Severen language in one simple seat. Although Future Primitives mainly tells the story of juxtaposing and intertwining different basic design functions, Muller Van Severen also designed a chair. The reason is simple: their design family did not contain a chair. For this object, Muller Van Severen taps into the aesthetics of their first exhibition, using L-shaped steel frames lacquered white and polyethylene plastic for back and seat. This material might appear hard to sit on but it is not. The seating is positioned in a slight downward slope, making the chair comfortable.
