Renowned primarily for their groundbreaking municipal architecture across Denmark during the 1950s and beyond, Nils (1914–2009) and Eva Koppel (1916–2006) were early protégés of Alvar Aalto, having trained in his Finnish studio. Their formative years under Aalto’s mentorship shaped a design ethos that extended into furniture, textiles, and lighting. Though their foray into furniture design was limited, it was striking: the Medallion Chair not only predated but also anticipated the sculptural elegance of later icons such as Kofod-Larsen’s Seal and Elizabeth chairs.
